The ever mysterious Rei Brown has made his mark this week with the double release of two EPs, going by the names of Lovers I and Lovers II. As you can imagine, this set us the tough task of selecting just one song to focus on, and after some deliberation we landed on the tear-jerkingly beautiful track ‘Let Go’. It’s one of the more minimal tracks of the two collections, composed of a rich grand piano, ongoing synths that sound like extraterrestrial communications, orchestral strings, and most notably Rei Brown’s flawless vocal with soars with all the pain and attachment of a broken heart still clinging onto hope. He honestly sings, “I don’t know if I’m ready to let go,” and thus here he finds himself, paralysed by indecision in the spaces between chords and electronica. Set some time aside this week for Lovers part one and two, and perhaps have a box of tissues handy for this emotional opus. - Hannah Thacker
